Britain in the Western front
By 1914 Britain had a fully constitutional government. They had universal male suffrage and votes for women over the age of 30. Even though this was great for a government back then, Britain was involved in the biggest war of the modern century, and had 2 times more deaths than what they would have in World War II. When Britain entered the war, it entered on the behalf of rights of small nations. This is because Britain and other Great Powers of Europe had sworn to defend the neutrality of Belgium in the first Treaty of London. However, when Germany violated this treaty and passed through Belgium to get past French eastern defences - Britain had to intervene.

This information is only partially reliable. This is because the information was taken off of a British website, so some of the information in this overview may be biased and view Britain in a glorious light. For example at the beginning when they stated that Britain is a fully Constitutional Government (with a monarch and such) they were correct. When the said male had suffrage they were correct as well, but by saying women could vote at the start of the war (as they are implying they are incorrect). There were many Women's suffrage movements before the war but the only ones that were actually taken into consideration occurred after the war. So no, Britain wasn't as developed as they had made it seem. Everything else happens to be factually correct because the reason why Britain intervened is the exact same in other sources as well.

First Battle of Marne:
|
British Involvement in the Battle of the Marne
The British, because of the triple entente, took the side of France in the battle. Both French and British troops were retreating for the twelve day period. The British troops at the time were called British Expeditionary Forces (BEF) and when the Commander in chief of the French forces (Joseph Joffre) declared a counter attack on the German Forces, the commander of BEF, Sir John French agreed to join in on the attack.
In the attack, when the German first army and second army went to go encircle Paris, the French and BEF troops advanced towards the Germans. This made the first army turn towards the troops, creating a 50km gap between both German troops. This allowed the French and BEF troops to advance through the gap and the Germans were unable to get through their lines. This caused the Germans to retreat, however they were not defeated. Consequences of this war was that they were able to prevent the Schlieffen plan, but hopes of a short war were quickly diminished.
This source is moderately accurate. The website does have a lot of good information and articles, but the website is not reputed to have the best information. The design is a bit weird and it's credibility has been debated on. I think this one articles is accurate because the author is stated, copy wright is available, and the information does not seem biased in any way that can be seen. It is fairly factual and does seem to be a fairly accurate source of information. However, students should be careful when using it for it's reliability.
